AIR is currently supporting the New York State Department of Education by serving as one of four regional professional development centers focused on RTI. AIR is developing training materials and providing on-site and off-site technical assistance to teams of staff in 120 schools in New York City.

Additionally, AIR has provided technical assistance and training in three other districts in the state. Between 2008 and 2012, AIR provided technical assistance to the Ithaca City School District (ICSD) Board of Education in the adoption and implementation of an RTI policy. The district RTI team and AIR developed and produced an implementation plan—the ICSD Procedural Manual—to help guide the implementation of RTI across all schools in the district. The manual outlined the three-tiered problem-solving approach adopted by the district, the roles and responsibilities of the district leadership team and the schools’ RTI teams, and other pertinent information regarding implementation of the district’s policy.

In the spring of 2013, AIR conducted RTI implementation reviews for Auburn Enlarged School District and Brockport Central School District. In Brockport this review was conducted as part of a broader instructional program audit. In both districts, data were collected using the RTI Integrity Rubric and worksheet. AIR also conducted a document review of school-based documents as evidence of RTI implementation. The AIR team prepared a final report and presented findings to district leadership.
