From 2016 to 2017, AIR will provide professional development and technical assistance to K-3 teachers in Delaware and the Delaware Department of Education to implement high-quality language and literacy instruction that is culturally and linguistically responsive within an MTSS framework, with a particular focus on instructional strategies to use with students who are in need of intensive support. Specific activities include: a) delivering three early literacy institutes to K-3 teachers, b) conducting needs assessment and action planning activities with School Implementation Teams to determine plans for the school year in regard to support of literacy instruction and MTSS implementation, c) facilitating job-embedded coaching around language and literacy practices and implementation of an MTSS framework, d) supporting schools in conducting two family engagement meetings to support families in language and literacy instruction in their homes, and e) participating in evaluation of institute and coaching activities. AIR also provides support related to a series of RtI coalition meetings designed to guide school leadership (e.g., principals, specialists) throughout the state in successful RtI implementation. AIR’s work in the collaboration includes: supporting meeting planning, attending coalition meetings, and providing research, content development, expertise, and identification of process tools and next steps in the area of RtI.
